Title:  Forecasting data using Prophet

Author: Dr. Amirhossein Fard

Department: Business Admin & Economics

A short summary/abstract of the project:  In this project, we use the historical data related to a time-series measure to forecast future changes. For this purpose, we use the Prophet, a model designed by the Facebook data science team to forecast time series data where there is a strong seasonality and trend embedded inside the data. In this example, I use the stock prices of Tesla, Inc. However, students can use any other measure (e.g., unemployment rate, housing prices, inflation rate, interest rate, etc.) with a seasonality nature. In particular, I use the daily price of Tesla stock from 1/1/2021 to 7/15/2021 as inputs and forecast the Tesla stock for the next 90 days. Further, I decompose the forecast into its elements to identify the trends and seasonality factors in Tesla's prices.

Title: Nuclear Energy – Costs and Benefits

Author: Dr. Matthew R Birch

Department: Business Admin & Economics

A short summary/abstract of the project:  Students will work in groups to implement basic cost-benefit analysis techniques in a fictionalized energy market. They will practice using mathematical tools to make informed strategic decisions from the perspective of an energy company. This project involves using Net Present Value (NPV) to assess the value of a long-term project (building a new nuclear reactor) and calculating expected outcomes when the future is uncertain.

You will find modules within the following broad categories:

Each module has two components:

1) A student version which describes the project , sources of data, methodology and other information needed to complete the project.

2) An instructor's notes which includes additional information for the instructors.
